About
A community on the journey to be more like Jesus
Our mission, with every Christian on earth, is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. South Reno UMC was officially chartered in 1989, but we were a church long before that.
We desire for you to come as you are and have an authentic experience of Jesus in all His love, wonder and beauty. We believe that church should be more like a lifeboat than a pleasure cruise — a place that welcomes all people and helps them be healed and set free to become who God has created them to be.
Rooted in the Wesleyan theological tradition and affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
God exists eternally as one God in three persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe.
Jesus is the Son of God, fully God and fully human. By His suffering, death and resurrection He provided the only way to salvation. He rose from the dead and will return again as Judge and King of all.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He convicts, empowers, and leads every believer into truth, granting gifts for service and growth in Christlikeness.
Salvation is a gift of God received through faith in Christ — it is not earned or deserved. We can experience assurance of our salvation because of God's promise.
The Bible is God's word, written by human authors under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Scripture is the full and final authority on all matters of faith and practice.
